How Much Does a Website Cost in 2026? Real Numbers, No “It Depends”

How Much Does a Website Cost in 2026? Real Numbers, No “It Depends”

Ask five agencies what a website costs and you'll get five versions of "it depends on your requirements." Which is true. It's also completely useless when you're trying to set a budget.

So let's do the thing agencies usually avoid and talk actual numbers — the ranges we genuinely see in 2026, and more importantly, what pushes a project from one band to another.

The honest price bands

A template site you set up yourself: ₹5,000–₹30,000 a year. Wix, Squarespace, a Shopify theme. If you're pre-revenue and just need to exist online, this is a perfectly sane choice, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. Its limits show up later — when you need speed, custom features, or SEO that competes.

A professionally built marketing site: roughly ₹1–4 lakhs ($1,500–$5,000). This is the band most small and mid-sized businesses actually need. Custom design, proper development, mobile done right, technical SEO baked in, a CMS you can edit yourself. The width of that range comes down to page count, content complexity, and how much strategy work happens before anyone opens Figma.

E-commerce: ₹2–6 lakhs and up. The store itself isn't the expensive part anymore — Shopify solved that. The money goes into conversion design, product data, payment and shipping integrations, and the unglamorous plumbing that decides whether people finish checkout.

Custom web applications: ₹5 lakhs to… well, it genuinely depends here. Accounts, dashboards, integrations, AI features — you're not buying a website anymore, you're buying software. Scope is everything, which is why anyone quoting a flat price for an unscoped app is guessing.

What actually moves the price

Three things, mostly. Content: ten pages of finished copy you provide versus forty pages someone has to research and write are wildly different projects. Custom functionality: every "can it also do…" adds real engineering time — calculators, booking systems, member areas, integrations. Strategy: a site built from a clear brief costs less than one that discovers its purpose mid-project. Revisions are where budgets die.

Where cheap gets expensive

We rebuild a lot of websites, and the most expensive ones are usually the ones that were cheapest the first time. A ₹40,000 site that loads slowly, can't rank, and converts nobody doesn't cost ₹40,000 — it costs that plus every lead it quietly failed to capture for two years. Slow, invisible, and untrustworthy is the most expensive combination on the internet.

That's not an argument for spending big. It's an argument for matching the spend to the job: a template when you need to exist, a professional build when your website has to actually win customers.

Questions that expose a bad quote

  • What exactly is included — copy? SEO? how many revision rounds?
  • Who owns the code and the CMS when we're done? (The answer should be: you.)
  • What happens after launch — support, updates, and at what cost?
  • Can I edit the site myself without calling you for every comma?

A good agency answers these without flinching. A vague answer on any of them is the real red flag, more than any number on the quote.

Our answer to "it depends"

We handle the "depends" part in one free call: you tell us what the site needs to do, we tell you an exact, itemised number — before you commit to anything. No pressure attached; worst case you leave with a realistic budget to take elsewhere. If you're weighing it up, our web development page explains how we build, and the maths above should tell you roughly where your project lands before we ever talk.
